The location of these festivities changes every year, oscillating between the months of March and April, since the date of Easter is fixed from the first full moon of spring.
The Easter celebrations take place between the Friday before Palm Sunday and Easter Sunday. Through various events and activities, the Christian community remembers the moments that Jesus Christ spent on Earth: passion, death and resurrection.
The brotherhoods of Tavernes have more and more support among the inhabitants, as the number of participants in the processions is increasingly higher and this gives more emotion to the celebrations:
Palm Sunday.
The Palm Sunday procession is held, which marks the beginning of Holy Week. The traditional procession is accompanied by the various brotherhoods and the representation of Jesus Christ. The procession begins on the esplanade of the San José school with the blessing of the palms.
The procession is usually formed by the representation of the Junta Mayor de la Semana Santa and the brotherhoods of Tavernes, which are the following: Cristo del Perdón, Hermandad de La Dolorosa, Jesús de Nazaret, La Flagelación de Jesús, Nuestra Señora de La Piedad, Santo Sepulcro and La Soledad de María.
From this day onwards, the transfer of each of the brotherhoods in procession begins.
Maundy Thursday.
In the parishes of Tavernes the washing of the feet and the last supper of Jesus are commemorated, and at 23:00h the Via Crucis is made along the Calvary. On this day also takes place the transfer of the Vera Creu of the Brotherhood of the Holy Sepulchre. A holy hour and a vigil to the Blessed Sacrament are celebrated.
Good Friday.
On this day the most solemn procession takes place, which is that of the Holy Burial.
Easter Sunday.
Easter Sunday is the day of the Resurrection Meeting. It is a very beautiful and emotional act in which the meeting of the risen Jesus with the Virgin dressed in white is represented.
It is a tradition that when Mother and Son meet, the people present at the event throw flowers at the images, which gives this moment great emotion. The confreres also participate in the parade by handing out sweets to the children.
San Vicente Ferrer.
He is the patron saint of the Valencian Community; he is celebrated on the second Monday after Easter and is a local holiday.
This saint was recognised as the greatest source of miracles in the Church and one of the most influential politicians, theologians, intellectuals and philosophers of his time.
