Tavernes beaches
Tavernes beaches offer a wide and varied coastline on the Valencia coast, with urban areas, natural spaces, dunes, tourist services and a Mediterranean landscape that can be enjoyed throughout the year.
Tavernes Beach, La Goleta Beach and Els Marenys Beach bring together relaxation, nature, sport, gastronomy, family activities and quiet corners for visitors who want to enjoy the Mediterranean at their own pace.
Beaches in Tavernes de la Valldigna
Three areas with their own personality: La Goleta, Tavernes and Els Marenys.
La Goleta Beach
A fine sandy beach. Its proximity to La Goleta lake gives it great potential as a resting area and feeding ground for migratory birds, mainly waders such as the Kentish plover.
It also plays a very important role in attracting numerous nesting species, especially aquatic birds.
This beach has a sailing school and outdoor sports facilities.
The Blue Flag award and the Q for Tourist Quality certificate held by the two beaches guarantee that they meet the required quality and safety criteria.
Tavernes Beach
The beaches of Tavernes de la Valldigna are framed by orange groves that almost reach the sea. Afternoon winds and calm morning waters make them suitable for water sports.
Tavernes Beach is perfect for family holidays. The quality of its fine golden sand, together with unspoilt areas with dunes, makes it especially pleasant for swimming and relaxing.
Both beaches have an accessible beach area adapted for people with reduced mobility.
Els Marenys Beach
In the dune cordon that still remains unspoilt, native animals and plants create a delicate transition between the fertile orange grove landscape and the waves breaking on the sand. Notable wildlife includes birds such as the Kentish plover and Mediterranean turtles.
These three kilometres of dunes linking the municipality of Tavernes with Xeraco have their own coastal habitat fauna and flora and are rich in endemic species.
This stretch offers a beach where visitors can enjoy peace, nature and, why not, water sports.
Nature and coastal heritage
By the sea, Tavernes preserves heritage sites, wetlands, dunes, viewpoints and historic elements that enrich a beach visit.
Torre de Guaita
The Torre de Guaita is a fortress that formed part of the defensive network built in the 16th century to protect the Valencian coast from attacks by Barbary pirates.
The tower in Tavernes is the tallest and most slender of the former Kingdom of Valencia, with very well-preserved stonework. In addition to the ground floor, it has three upper floors and a terrace. It has no fixed stairs, so it is believed that removable ladders were used, making it easier to defend the tower when they were withdrawn.
It has a picnic area and, during the summer season, many outdoor activities are held nearby.
El Molló and the window
El Molló, or boundary marker, marks the limit between jurisdictions and, in this case, is a unique separator between the municipal areas of Tavernes and Cullera. It was built in the early 14th century.
King James II the Just ordered the boundaries of the Valldigna area to be marked after donating the lands to the monks who founded the Monastery of Santa María de la Valldigna.
It was built using rammed earth and stone. Originally, it was decorated with two stone carvings: one showing Our Lady of Valldigna and another with the coat of arms of the Crown of Aragon.
If we walk down to the sea, we find a peculiar open window that invites us to look out over the beach and contemplate the Mediterranean from a privileged spot.
Ullals
Ullals are concentrated surface outflows of groundwater in marshlands, formed when underground water reaches the surface or when groundwater flow is concentrated in more permeable areas.
In Tavernes we find Ullal Gran, Ullal del Gat and Ullal de les Penyetes. These wetlands are linked to freshwater springs and surrounded by citrus crops. They belong to the marshland ecosystem and provide shelter for various species of marsh birds, ducks and herons.
Ullal de les Penyetes is being adapted so that visitors can enjoy the area when following the Ruta dels Sentits or spending the day there. There is an accessible route for people with reduced physical or sensory abilities, with adapted information panels and plaques. This route ends in a historic orange grove.

Events and atmosphere throughout the year
Tavernes Beach is also local life, culture, music, sport and family activities during much of the year.
Events
The beaches of Tavernes de la Valldigna are much more than sun and sand, and they do not close in winter. For much of the year, activities of all kinds and for all ages are held here.
The summer season begins with the Night of Sant Joan, with children's activities in the afternoon and a correfocs fire parade at night.
In July and August, the programme becomes more intense and sports, cultural and leisure activities fill the calendar.
Do not miss the Sant Jaume Fair, held on the weekend closest to 25 July, where you can find artisan and local products.
If you enjoy music, note these dates: the first Sunday in August for the Cançons a la Mar choir festival and, from 11 to 14 August, the international Sete Sóis Sete Luas festival.
More activities
In the second half of August, “The Gastro Week Tavernes” offers the chance to enjoy gourmet flavours and concerts. It is the perfect plan for late-August afternoons and evenings.
You can also enjoy concerts by the music band and performances by the popular dance group.
Young people are not forgotten either: orchestra concerts and musicals complete the programme.
If sport motivates you more, the first Friday in August brings together more than 2,000 runners competing to reach the finish line of the Volta a Peu beach race. Rugby also has its big day with the Seven de Rugbi by the sea.
Tradition also has its place with the Pesca amb Rall championship, and every year children's activities are prepared for the youngest visitors: games, face painting, crafts and a musical for the whole family.
