Three areas with their own personality: La Goleta, Tavernes and Els Marenys.

La Goleta beach

A fine-sand beach whose proximity to La Goleta lake gives it great potential as a resting area and feeding site for migratory birds, especially waders such as the Kentish plover. It also plays a very important role in attracting numerous nesting species, particularly aquatic birds.

The beach has a sailing school and outdoor sports facilities.

The Blue Flag award and the Q quality certificate held by the two beaches guarantee that they meet quality and safety criteria.

Tavernes beach

The beaches of Tavernes de la Valldigna are dominated by orange groves that almost reach the sea. The afternoon breeze and calm morning waters make it possible to practise water sports.

Both La Goleta beach and Tavernes beach are perfect for a family summer holiday. Their fine golden sand and unspoilt areas covered by dunes make them very pleasant for swimming and relaxing.

Both beaches have an accessible bathing area adapted for people with reduced mobility.

Els Marenys beach

In the muntanyar (dune cordon), which still remains unspoilt, native animals and plants create a delicate transition between the fertile orange-grove landscape and the breaking waves on the sand. Its wildlife includes birds such as the Kentish plover and Mediterranean tortoises.

These three kilometres of dunes linking the municipal area of Tavernes with Xeraco have fauna and flora typical of coastal habitats and are rich in endemic species.

Along this stretch, you will find a beach where you can enjoy peace and quiet, nature and, why not, water sports.

Torre de Guaita

The Torre de Guaita is a fortress that formed part of the 16th-century defensive network created to protect the Valencian coast from attacks by Barbary pirates.

The tower in Tavernes is the tallest and most slender in the former Kingdom of Valencia, with very well-preserved stonework. In addition to the ground floor, it has three upper floors and a terrace, but no staircase, suggesting that ladders were used and then removed to make the tower easier to defend.

It has a picnic area and, during the summer season, many outdoor activities take place nearby.

El Molló and La Finestra

The molló marks the boundary between jurisdictions and, in this particular case, is a distinctive divider between the municipal areas of Tavernes and Cullera. It was erected at the beginning of the 14th century. King James II the Just ordered the boundaries of La Valldigna to be marked after granting the lands to the religious community that founded the monastery of Santa Maria de Valldigna.

It is built using rammed earth and stone, and originally it was decorated with two stone carvings: one showing the image of the Virgin of Valldigna and another bearing the coat of arms of the Crown of Aragon.

If we walk down to the sea, we find a distinctive open window that invites us to look out over the beach and contemplate the Mediterranean from a privileged spot.

Ullals

They are surface springs where groundwater emerges in the marshes, occurring when the water table intersects the ground surface or when underground water flow is concentrated in more permeable areas.

In the municipal area of Tavernes there are several ullals, including Ullal Gran, Ullal del Gat and Ullal de les Penyetes. This wetland area is linked to a freshwater spring and surrounded by citrus groves. It belongs to the marshland ecosystem and provides a refuge for various marsh birds, such as coots and moorhens, as well as ducks and herons.

At Ullal de les Penyetes, improvement work is currently being carried out so that visitors can enjoy the area, whether they are following the Ruta dels Sentits or simply spending the day there. When you reach the ullal, the tables and benches invite you to relax, and an adapted circuit has been prepared for people with reduced physical or sensory abilities, with accessible information panels and plaques. The route ends in a historic orange grove.

Discover the Ruta dels Sentits to complete your visit to the natural areas close to the coast.

Tradition also has its place with the rall fishing championship. And for the little ones, children’s activities are organised every year so they can truly enjoy themselves: games, face painting, crafts and a family musical.
